From what I see, Biodiesel is an alternative that have been proving its advantages over other alternative fuels, talking about emissions, energy used to create 1 energy unit of fuel (depends on the oil/fat used), fuel consumption, positive CO life cycle (78%), etc. In the other hand, one gallon of ethanol is going to give you 30% less calorific energy than gasoline from fossil sources and that gets represented on fuel consumption too. I'm not sure about the emissions, but I would believe it's lower than burning gasoline. For some reason, I keep thinking that there's always going to be some politics and petroleum people interested on giving biofuels a bad name. Lower emissions on the biofuels is an advantage over fossil fuels and it's usually used as a marketing weapon in favor of biofuels, so those persons opposed to ethanol and biofuels are always going to attack that strong point.
